About Us
To all of our neighbors, friends, family, colleagues, current and potential customers, as of May 1, 2020, we became the proud new owners of Bernal Beast Pet Supply shop at 509 Cortland Avenue in Bernal Heights!
We’re your neighbors, Stephanie Miller and Alan Belgard. With our seven-year-old son, Dylan, we’ve lived in Bernal for the last 20 years, and all of those years we’ve been helping clients live harmoniously with their dogs through education: offering in-home consultations, teaching public group dog training classes, co-founding a puppy daycare and early socialization center (SF Puppy Prep), and owning outdoor off-leash dog-walking businesses.
It is such an honor that Tony Chrisanthis, the founder of Bernal Beast who brought pet supplies to our neighborhood for the last 25 years, has given us this opportunity to carry on what he started. We’re so happy to be part of this special community and can’t wait to meet you and your pets! With each of our respective backgrounds at your disposal, our #1 priority is to keep animals well-nourished, healthy and cared for, so that you can continue to nurture and cherish your relationships with your pets as long as possible.
We have lots of plans for the shop! We have already turned one side of the shop into an event space where we’ll be offering a variety of fun community options for our neighbors: seminars to educate community members on humane animal guardianship, puppy socials and small dog socials, small-sized dog training classes, workshops for kids to promote a love and respect for animals’ body language, guest speakers, animal adoption events, pet photography sessions, local artist shows, and much more.
Although this global pandemic will require us to switch gears and put some of our ideas for the “Bernal Barn” on the back burner for a while, we’re going to make the best of this current situation and we hope you’ll come along with us.

We want Bernal Beast to be a hub of both retail and education support, as well as a place to have fun and gather with neighbors. With over 20 years of experience and a strong commitment to animals and their guardians, we feel confident that we’ll be able to help community members keep their animals safe, well-loved, and enriched throughout their lives. And, not to worry, although we have the most experience with dogs, we love ALL animals and can’t wait to be a part of your pets’ lives.
Pets are great medicine in tough times and we want to help keep them healthy and happy for you.
